LAHORE, Jan 3: The PML(QA) will not make any election alliance with any faction of the PML and the PPP but was ready to embrace all Muslim League workers and leaders.
This was stated by PML(QA) information secretary Syeda Abida Husain while talking to Dawn after a meeting of the top leadership of the party at her residence here on Thursday.
The meeting was presided over by party president Mian Azhar and attended by Chaudhry Shujaat Husain, Mian Khurshid Kasuri, Mian Abdul Wahid, Chaudhry Sikandar Malhi, Mian Abdul Sattar Laleka, Humayun Akhtar, Mian Munir, Tariq Aziz, Syed Fakhr Imam and Begum Abida Husain.
She said the party would contest the general elections as the PML. “We are not likely to make alliance with any faction of the PML but are happy to hold out a spirit of accommodation to all Muslim Leaguers,” she said.
She said the PML(QA) was opened to discussing electoral alliances which were compatible to its interests as a centrist party. “However, we are in search of a unification of the PML on a democratic basis,” she added.
Begum Husain said the PML(QA) would be contesting against the PPP because it considered the polity in the country divided between the two parties.
Her party would first prepare its own list of candidates to the national and provincial assemblies and after having prepared its own platform it would show its readiness to talk to other like-minded political parties, she said.
The main leadership of the party would conduct a countrywide tour so as to prepare for the general elections this month. They would visit the NWFP on Jan 11, Sindh Jan 20 and 21 and Balochistan Jan 26 and 27.
Begum Husain said the meeting unanimously felt that the delimitation of constituencies ought to be a transparent exercise and that no eligible voter should be omitted during the preparation of the electoral rolls as the NADRA was entrusted with substantial resources to ensure a comprehensive compilation of the lists.
Meanwhile, she said the meeting was a brain storming session of the party leadership, leading to the meeting of its office bearers called by Mian Azhar at his Islamabad residence on Jan 10 to further discuss its plans for the forthcoming elections.
They discussed the reality of democracy being desired in the prevailing order of present day’s world and looked forward towards the restoration of parliament later this year through a process of elections for which the PML would be preparing by defining succinctly its platform of issues with the objective of achieving stability and prosperity for the people of Pakistan, Begum Husain said.
She said the international, regional and political situation was carefully srcutinized and a unanimous condemnation made of Indian leadership’s shrill and unreasonable rhetoric and blatant war mongering.
The PML leaders maintained that the entire nation was united in the face of the Indian threat and would fight to the last man to guard the sovereignty of their motherland.
The PML leaders regretted the increase in oil prices which, they said, had deprived the people of the relief so briefly felt. They decided to frame the issues of the party’s agenda for the well being, unity and prosperity of the people with clarity with emphasis on preparing for the coming general elections, Begum Husain said.
