FAISALABAD, Aug 2: An alleged robber was killed while a constable was injured in an encounter in Tandlianwala area on Friday night.
Tandlianwala police claimed a patrol party intercepted a gang of robbers on Athwal Road. Fearing their arrest, the robbers opened fire, injuring Constable Abdul Rahim.
Police claimed a robber was killed when they retaliated. His two accomplices fled from the scene by taking advantage of darkness. The killed robber was later identified as Ramazan.
The condition of the injured constable was stated to be out of danger at the Allied Hospital.
NESPAK PLAN: The city Nazim has claimed that the design of the railway station intersection had been prepared in the light of proposals by NESPAK, traffic police and other departments concerned.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, he claimed that the construction of a monument at the railway station intersection in the middle of the road would not create any traffic problems.
He said the round-about at the intersection was being reduced from 95 feet to 60 feet and the nullah of the irrigation department was being diverted which would improve the flow of traffic.
He said the plan was being executed under the Faisalabad beautification programme with the financial assistance of national and multinational companies.
BURIAL: Barrister Raja Sher Muhammad, who died in a London hospital, would be laid to rest in the graveyard of his native village Rajawala after Asr prayers on Sunday.
He was a former president of the Faisalabad District Bar Association, and father of PPP MPA Raja Riaz Ahmed and PIA Commercial pilot Raja Sher Ahmad.
