KARACHI, Aug 2: An attempt to reconstruct Baitul Hamza, the headquarters of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, was foiled by the police in Landhi on Saturday.

The building was demolished on the orders by the Karachi Building Control Authority in the last week of May, this year. The government had planned to build a recreational park on the plot vacated after the demolition of Baitul Hamza.

The MQM-H had sent building material to the site of its demolished headquarters for reconstruction. However, heavy contingent of police reached the spot and forced the labourers to go away along with the building material, the spokesman for the party said.

A number of women, who had gathered there, protested against the police action and chanted slogans against the KBCA and the government for demolishing the headquarters, demanding rebuilding of Baitul Hamza.

The police controlled the situation and dispersed the women. No untoward incident was reported, the police said.
