Raghd, Rana not to give interviews

AMMAN, Aug 2: Saddam Hussein’s daughters, Raghd and Rana, have decided to give no further media interviews after speaking out to satellite television channels Al Arabiya and CNN on Friday, a Jordanian court official said.

“Raghd and Rana Saddam Hussein have told us that they do not want to give any more interviews but want to live as ordinary people far from the eyes of the media,” the official said on Saturday.

The two sisters arrived here on Thursday from Syria, where they had found refuge two weeks after the launch of the US-led invasion of Iraq.

Given refuge by King Abdullah in one of his late father King Hussein’s residences, the pair have faced a barrage of media interest.

In Friday’s interview with Al Arabiya, Raghd accused her father’s aides of “betraying” him and causing the fall of Baghdad to US-led forces in April.

“The main betrayal came from the people whom he trusted fully, those he considered his right hand... (In fact) they betrayed their country before betraying Saddam Hussein,” she said.

In a separate interview with CNN, Raghd insisted that despite his bad reputation, Saddam Hussein had been a caring father, whom she missed a great deal.

“He was a very good father, loving and with a very big heart. He loved his daughters, sons, grandchildren.”—AFP
