ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: Torrential rain and thunderstorm which lashed the twin cities late Thursday night wrecked havoc in various low-lying localities of Rawalpindi.

The residents of Sadiqabad were the most affected as water entered their houses and damaged their household items due to poor drainage system in the locality.

The rain which started a about 10pm continued till mid- night, forcing the people to shift to safer places.

The inhabitants of the areas accused Wasa and the elected representatives of failing to take any concrete steps to protect them.

Talking to this agency, the residents of Sadiqabad and adjacent areas said the main problem of the areas was poor drainage system, which created problems even during light rain.

They said the residents were exposed to various fatal diseases as they were forced to use contaminated water. They said they had registered many complaints with the authority concerned, but to no avail.—PPI
