GILGIT, Aug 1: Members of Danyore, Sultanabad and Mohammadabad union councils on Friday threatened to launch protests on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) if the prevalent power shutdown was not addressed forthwith.

Speaking at a press conference, Mohammad Hasan Pasha, Mushtaq Ahmed and Javed Sabir said their localities were facing persistent loadshedding for the past two months which had hit their business and increased their sufferings in the rise of temperature.

They said they had postponed their protests on the assurances of the Northern Areas administration last week but they would resume if the power supply was not restored.

The councillors accused district and northern areas legislative council members of their constituency for neglecting their problems.

They said that over 15,000 people of Danyore and Sultanabad were facing continued loadshedding as their 135kv powerhouse had not repaired that was out of order for the last two years.

The councillors also demanded for setting up a grid station in Gilgit and flayed the monopoly of a few people on power distribution.
