Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday took notice of the alleged abuse of power by a feudal lord in Umerkot, Sindh, and ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects in the case, it has been learnt.

The notice was taken on media reports that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf activist Nawab Zaid Talpur, along with a co-accused, forcibly entered Police Station Kunri, District Umerkot and humiliated and maltreated the Station House Officer (SHO), read a statement issued on Friday.

Reportedly, Talpur had forced the SHO to sit on the ground and speak to him while he himself sat on the official's chair.

The accused persons had initially been arrested, but were later released, allegedly due to political pressure.

Taking notice of the matter, the CJP has asked the Sindh police chief to submit a report on the matter within five days.

Earlier this week, Talpur was booked along with his six associates at the Kunri police station for, police claimed, grabbing and thrashing the SHO concerned.

Talpur, however, denied the allegation, saying that he was manhandled and kept behind bars when he visited the police station to inquire about a case registered against one of his party workers.

SHO Tasawwur Jatt, speaking to local reporters, had alleged that Zaid Talpur, along with Hassan Talpur and five other associates, “attacked the police station, abused the staff and grabbed and dragged me”.

The suspects were later booked under Sections 147, 148, 149, 150, 504 and 353 of the Criminal Procedure Code, he added.

On his part, Zaid Talpur told Dawn that he visited the police station to inquire about a “false case” registered against a fellow PTI man “at the behest of a local PPP leader who is an adviser to the Sindh chief minister”.

“Instead of sharing details of the case, the SHO misbehaved with me and then kept me behind bars for four hours,” he claimed.
