Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif called on Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa at General Headquarters (GHQ) on Wednesday to discuss regional security and other issues of bilateral interest, read a statement issued by military's media wing.

"Pakistan was committed to having lasting relations with Iran and will keep up its efforts to reduce friction amongst brotherly Muslim countries," the army chief was quoted as saying by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

"Both sides agreed on improving bilateral broader coordination to deny any space to the terrorists as tremendous bilateral cooperation potential was identified in various fields," ISPR said in a press release.

Zarif appreciated the efforts of Pakistan and Pakistan Army against terrorism.

Sri Lankan army chief lauds Pakistan Army's effort

Sri Lankan Army Chief Lt Gen A.W.J.C. De Silva in a visit to General Headquarters (GHQ) earlier in the day, called on Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa to thank Pakistan Army for its "incessant support to Sri Lanka’s fight against terrorism", ISPR said in a separate press release.

Upon his arrival at GHQ, the Lt Gen De Silva was briefed about Pakistan Army's campaign against terrorists and banned organisations, the army's media wing said.

Lt Gen De Silva reportedly appreciated the army's achievements and contributions towards national and regional security and expressed full confidence in Pakistan's ability to "completely overcome this menace in the near future."

COAS Bajwa thanked his Sri Lankan counterpart and both sides reaffirmed their determination to work together for the enhancement of regional security and continuing military cooperation.
