LAHORE, July 31: Civil Judge Sheharyar Bukhari, one of the injured of the Sialkot jail shootout, died at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) here on Thursday.

Along with six other judges, Mr Bukhari, 27, had sustained bullet injuries when the police opened fire to free them from the custody of five prisoners-cum-captors on Friday last. Three of them had died before getting any medical aid.

Mr Bokhari was admitted to the PIC on Saturday with critical injuries in his chest. Doctors said though he was clinically dead, every effort was made to save his life.

A large number of judges from subordinate courts and some from the higher courts reached the hospital after Mr Bukhari was pronounced dead and consoled with his family members.

Later, his body was driven to his native village in Sargodha amid tight security.
