Two university students died under mysterious circumstances at a farmhouse in the Gulshan-e-Maymar locality of Karachi.

Johar Husain, 24, a student of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST), and Abdul Rehman, 20, were found foaming from their mouths in their room at the farmhouse on Sunday morning, the Gulshan-e-Maymar Station House Officer (SHO) Fasih-uz-Zaman said.

The SHO said a group of friends ─ all students at different varsities ─ had gathered for a picnic at a farmhouse off Super Highway on the outskirts of Karachi Saturday night.

The friends found Husain and Rehman unconscious around 10:30am on Sunday, with foam coming out from their mouths.

They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. However, both students died on the way, the SHO added, quoting their friends.

Police surgeon Dr Aijaz Khokhar told Dawn the relatives of Rehman took his body away without allowing doctors to conduct a post-mortem examination on him to ascertain the exact cause of death.

However, Dr Khokhar added that Hussain's autopsy report had been reserved for chemical examination.
