LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan on Friday said that Pakistan played an important role in eliminating Big Three from the structure of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
“Big Three was an undemocratic set-up and Pakistan was the only country which raised its voice against this set-up from the very beginning and made the cricket-playing countries realise that Big Three was not going to truly serve world cricket [with equality] because it was favouring certain member countries of the ICC which was an injustice,” Shaharyar said while talking to reporters.
He was addressing a news conference at the National Cricket Academy after returning from Dubai where he attended the ICC meeting along with PCB executive committee chairman Najam Sethi.
“We [the PCB] were at loss due to the creation of Big Three in the ICC and with its abolition, Pakistan will get the [monetary] benefit of $39 million,” the PCB chief stated.
“We due to Big Three set-up suffered in many ways. For example, we were scheduled to play six [bilateral] series with India; but they backed out of the commitment due to which we suffered huge financial losses,” he added.
“With the abolition of Big Three, now the ICC will be more professional and democratic as its member countries will get equal financial benefits and representation in the Council,” said the PCB chairman.
Answering a question, Shaharyar said the Big Three set-up was adversely affecting world cricket, adding that several promises were made to Pakistan but not fulfilled which caused huge financial losses to the PCB.
“Now with the elimination of Big three from world cricket, we hope that a new era will begin in the ICC, and in Pakistan cricket,” said Shaharyar.
Commenting on the proposed visit of an International XI team to Pakistan in September this year, the PCB chief said that the matches would be staged in Lahore, not Karachi.
“Most of the things relating to the [planned] tour of International XI have been finalised; only players’ selection is to be carried out. And it is not possible to hold their matches in Karachi as during the PSL final [held on March this year] security arrangements were made and reviewed at Lahore,” Shaharyar said.

For some reason he failed to mention how Supreme Court of India has considerably weakened BCCI due to its monopolistic policies which ultimately forced this change to occur. There is a saying "when war is over, heroes come out"

Boss, have you heard of the man Shashank Manohar? If Manohar had not initiated the process of dismantling the Big 3, your PCB would have been left doing what it had been for the past many years: living by on scraps.

India generates more than 70℅ of total ICC revenue. Rest of the all countries combined contribute less than 30℅ revenue. The Big Three formula gives India $570 million, after scrapping of Big Three formula India would get less than half of it i.e. $280 million. Now it's fact that India is the hen which gives golden eggs. Remember that if India is to lose money then ICC itself and all other Cricket boards of different countries are also to lose it as it would jeopardize whole revenue collecting structure.

Dear PCB, please tell us how much money you contribute to ICC revenue? And how much money India contributes to ICC revenue?
If India is giving single-handedly more than 70℅ of ICC revenue then it deserves a lion share in it.

@Ahmed khan ahmed Bravo. Good answer and for all those who are saying that BCCI generates all the money then why dont you bycott the cricket and play only with each other (domestic cricket). People like it because you get all foreign cricketers else no one would be interested. BCCI cannot survive on its own

And that was because it became No 1 by default....as India's last Test match against the West Indies (which was that same week when the points were being calculated for the rankings) was washed off, and India LOST two points for a match it couldn't play due to bad weather.
If your team was that good, it should have remained No 1 for more than a week.

@tomUHTO TAWMAYTO The reason he dismantled it my friend was becuase it was a law unto itself. The supreme court nipped its wrongodings in the bud before things got out of hand. There would have been law suits left right and centre. Remember Lalit Modi and the use of the word draconian? So your boards isolationist policy came back like a lemon pie and kind of hit you ( merely the observor) in the face. Nobody likes someone who pretends they know it all, yet know next to nothing. : )

If PCB/Shahryar Khan ---- or anyone outside BCCI for that matter --- was so strong, why couldn't they dismantle the Big-3 BEFORE Manohar came into the picture?
It is this childish attempt by Shahryar Khan to claim brownie points that is what I am trying to point out. Please do not comment for the sake of discrediting India...

So many comments are flying around for BCCI to quit ICC or for the ICC to boot out its biggest dollar contributor. Without BCCI, the ICC may instead need to think about the possibility of losses (instead of the profits they are making now) and how much each member nation needs to contribute to make up for the losses. Game anyone ?

Under the new formula and with India/BCCI in the ICC club, PCB will get USD 39M. Without India/BCCI, Pakistan (read Pakistani tax payers) will have to start paying for the losses made by ICC. Shall we give credit for that to you Mr Shaharyar Khan ?

Indians care about $$$ and will do anything to isolate Pakistan. Big 3 is discrimination against other countries. Pakistan has more cricket popularity than England and Australia. If it were to create T20 leagues then make it equal just like Football leagues. Dont forget Pakistan invented T20 cricket and it had plans well before the IPL to create a league but due to terrorist attacks it was put on hold. But Pakistan was still happy for rest nations to create a league of their own without jealusy which we see against Pakistan from Indians in any buissness from sports to CPEC, etc.

As I read this post, I am thinking that PCB leadership is no less politician than the BCCI.
But as Scroll down and read the comments, I realized that Indians are so full of themselves.
India can do nothing wrong.
Everything belongs to Indians.
Good in this world is because of India.
Evil in this world is because of Pakistani.
I have lost insterest in cricket first because if the ugly politics of BCCI and didn't help to have an incompetent PCB that failed to groom the country's talent.
I am sad for all the cricket lovers out there.

Pakistan was deprived of the contribution by intentional effort by BCCI and Indian politicians.

BCCI can use certain clauses in the Members Participation Agreement with ICC to withdraw from the June 1-18 Champions Trophy. But then it would have to pull out from all ICC events, including the 2019 World Cup, as the agreement covers the period 2016-2023.
Thanks to the money-making mill that IPL is, BCCI can survive till 2023 on its own ; the question is: can the ICC and the country that replaces India to host the 2023 WC?

For India to prosper as a cricket playing nation you need other countries. I think Indians would agree with me as well that their soothing memories are of Sachin, Dada, Sehwag whacking Aussie, Pak, English bowlers all around the ground. Without all these team what you gonna do in that alternate universe? ICC need India just like India needs ICC.

I think BCCI would be agree for $ 450 millions and ICC and BCCI both would compromise. India maximum can back out from ICC tournament which would be very big loss for ECB and ICC but I don't think that would happen and BCCI would participate.
ICC also knows that without revenue, cricket would not survive and without India, sponsor will not put money.
