THATTA, July 31: Renowned Sindhi poet of Laar (lower Sindh) Mohammad Ibrahim Munshi died after a protracted illness at his ancestral village, Janhan Soomro, on Thursday.

Mr Ibrahim was born in 1934 at the Janhan Soomro village, some 11 kms away from the Bulri Shah Karim town.

Being extremely poor, his father, Ishaque Soomro, could not afford schooling his son beyond class four.

Mr Ibrahim was the author of four poetry books: Goondhar Vaya Guzri, Paigham-e-Mazloom, Dhaunray Deehn Dhara, and Dharti Deen Dharam.

Since he was an expert on the poetry of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, the Sindh culture department had Latif’s poetry recorded in his voice. He was affiliated with the Jeay Sindh and Sindh National Front.

He is survived by three sons and four daughters. His funeral was attended by people from all walks of life.
