An official source quoting the local government secretary told Dawn that retired army personnel, mainly of the rank of subedar, could be recruited as MEAs.

Earlier, the government had launched monitoring of health and education departments at district level across the province through MEAs, who were mostly retired army officials.

The official, who attended a recent training of local government officials in Lahore, said that the senior hierarchy of the department shared the plan of launching MEAs for the monitoring of entire establishment of the staff at city as well as district level.
