HYDERABAD: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) on Tuesday supported the provincial government’s move to act against 500 industrialists and traders who hide their profit as agriculture income to evade taxes.

In a statement, SCA General Secretary Nabi Bux Sathio appealed to the government to disclose names of all businessmen who falsely claim to be landlords and force them to clear tax liabilities.

He offered SCA’s assistance to Sindh Board of Revenue and Federal Board of Revenue for verification of land holding claims in every taluka and district within one month.

People associated with the industrial sector in Karachi and Hyderabad have bought land but hardly five per cent of it is cultivable, he said.

Showing such landholding as cultivable agriculture land to avoid payment of taxes to provincial and federal government is illegal and immoral, he added.

He also opposed unilateral action against Sindh’s agriculturists for tax recoveries by corrupt revenue officers.
