The Army's senior command resolved at a Corps Commanders' Conference at General Headquarters on Monday that the military would play its 'due role' as part of the Supreme Court-ordered Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which will probe Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family's business dealings abroad.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said the forum had discussed the apex court's Panamagate verdict with special reference to the JIT.
"The forum pledged that the institution, through its members in the JIT, shall play its due role in a legal and transparent manner, fulfilling [the] confidence reposed [in the military] by the apex court," the ISPR said.
The JIT is to include officials from the National Accountability Bureau, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the State Bank of Pakistan, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI), and will be led by an assistant director general level officer from the FIA, according to the SC order.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, one of the judges with a dissenting opinion in the 2:3 split verdict of the case, had said in the detailed judgement that the apex court had to entertain the case "in the backdrop of an unfortunate refusal/failure on the part of all the relevant institutions in the country, like the NAB, the FIA, the SBP, the Federal Board of Revenue, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, and the National Assembly speaker to inquire into or investigate the matter."
It has been commented that the ISI and the MI have been included in the JIT to allay these concerns.

Any JIT formed by the currrent government under the leadership of the sitting prime mini, who is the one indicted & to be investigated, will be a hoax no matter whether or not the JIT has one or two members from the military because all government functionaries including military work under the prime minister and as such their investigation can not be fair, honest & neutral

Failure of civilian institutions from parliament to State Bank is a manifestation of our failure to perform on the civil side. The ISPR statement will restore confidence in the masses and law and order situation will not go out of hands.

The entire nation has been put on test. If the military has to take care of everything then why not have a non martial law military government. Politicians have failed the nation more than anything else. What is the logic for a PM to continue when JIT has been ordered against him, as per law JIT reports are to be submitted to PM ultimately before it goes to the SC

Why does our military have to get involved every time a prime minister causes controversy. The SC should be given due time to resolve the Panama case in its due time. The court has ordered further investigations and the people who did not get the result they wanted, need to calm down and let Justice take it's course. The military has no role to play in this, this is a civilian matter that needs to be resolved through civilian courts.

I think now the PTI and the PPP must be satisfied over the status of the JIT being formed to probe the Prime Minister. Instead of taking another U-turn after six months on current demand to get PM resignation it is better time for both the PTI and PPP to cooperate with the JIT and just allowed the country to make progress.

He has made enough money to buy that whenever he'll feel the need, and continue doing so remaining in office, safe and sound. Did Musharraf earn any respect after he resigned? Actually he lost it since he resigned. Don't promise what you're not willing to deliver, or prove it by giving respect to those who do what you ask for in exchange.

@abdul - there is democracy in Pakistan as much as it is in US and UK - the outcome of voting may not be to our liking but that is the way it is; vote of two persons have equal weight no matter if they are miles apart in their mental maturity. However, we do have our other problems that have kept us back in our development.
