BAHAWALPUR: At least 12 passengers suffered burns, some of them serious, when a Lahore-bound bus caught fire early on Sunday on Bahawalpur-Khanewal Road near Lodhran, about 20kms from here.

Police said the bus belonging to Minthar Transport Company packed with passengers left for Lahore from the General Bus Stand, Bahawalpur. As it crossed Lodhran, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the bus. The driver lost control over the steering and the bus dashed against the road divider and caught fire.

The passengers, including women and children, rushed out of the vehicle, but 12 of them suffered burn wounds. The Rescue 1122 personnel provided the first-aid to injured passengers. The bus was completely burnt.

The Lodhran police were reportedly looking for the fleeing truck driver.
