HYDERABAD: Speakers paid rich tributes to comrade Ameer Bux Shar for his tremendous services for the rights of poor and needy peasants in Sindh and contribution towards Sindhi literature at a condolence reference organised by the Bhandar Sangat and Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) held at the local press club here on Friday.

They highlighted his contribution towards Sindhi literature. He has written two famous books, Raee Pair Rat Kya, an autobiography, and Jodhpur Ji Jalawatni, a book on history. Shar, who died on April 5 and was laid to rest at his village in Mirpurkhas, has also written profiles of various historical places.

“Comrade Ameer Bux Shar had a versatile personality as he was known as a peasant leader, social and political activist, writer and poet,” said SCF executive director Javed Soz.

He said Shar was committed to the rights of peasants while working with the Sindh Hari Committee and organising growers in parts of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Badin and other areas.

He raised voice against violations of peasants’ rights and devoted his life to welfare of growers and tried hard to develop relationship between peasants and landowners in order to implement the actual sprit of Sindh Tenancy Act.

“Shar started his political life from a small village of Sanghar in 1974 where he studied at a school,” peasant leader Taj Marri said. He stated that Shar participated actively in a movement for growers in 1978 and fought for growers against cruel landowners.

Bhandar Sangat head Shaheena Ramzan said Shar was a principled person who promoted cause of the Sindh Hari Committee.

National Party leader comrade Ramzan Memon stressed need for raising voice for the dejected stratum of society — growers. Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Hyderabad task force coordinator Dr Ashothama Lohana, peasant leader Punhal Sario, Yasmeen Daudpoto, Prof Ismail and others also spoke on the occasion.
