WANA: The border crossing in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan Agency, which straddles the Pak-Afghan border, was reopened on Thursday after remaining closed for more than four months.

The crossing was closed after Pakistani and Afghan troops exchanged fire following a dispute over construction of a gate close to the border.

The announcement about reopening of the crossing was made at a jirga held here, which was attended among others by the army’s general officer commanding for South Waziristan, Maj Gen Nauman Zikaria, Political Agent Zafar Islam Khattak, and elders of the Ahmadzai Wazir, Mehsud, Dotani and Sulimankhel tribes.

Speaking at the jirga, Maj Gen Zikaria said the crossing had been opened for trade and other activities with immediate effect.

According to sources, the Ghulam Khan border post in North Waziristan Agency would be reopened on Friday (today). Like other notified crossing points, this post was closed in the middle of February after a series of terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
