ENVIRONMENTAL engineering is a branch of civil or chemical engineering, while industrial engineering was developed as part of chemical engineering.

Similarly health safety environment (HSE) is another branch of engineering developed as part of chemical engineering along with oil and gas processing.

Unfortunately, in Pakistan, government and private engineering companies do not know these facts and, therefore, only offer environmental jobs to civil engineers, while industrial engineering jobs are offered only to mechanical engineers. Chemical engineers are also not even considered for HSE and even oil and gas processing jobs.

The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) should notify all engineering organisations registered with them to include the qualifications of chemical engineering and chemical process engineering for jobs in environmental, HSE, industrial, oil and gas processing, energy production, climate change, chemical processing, food and pharmaceutical processing.

This will greatly improve the job structure for chemical engineers, while specific industries will also benefit from a specialised knowledge of chemical engineers, who are specifically trained for the above-mentioned industries.
