LAHORE: Writer and former federal secretary Mukhtar Masood died here on Saturday. He was 88.

His funeral prayer was offered at Shadman and he was laid to rest at a local graveyard.

A graduate of Aligarh Muslim University, Masood served on different positions like commissioner and federal secretary during his service after passing Central Superior Services (CSS) examination in 1949.

He was also conferred upon Sitara-e-Imtiaz honour.

As a writer, his work includes Awaz-i-Dost (1973), a first-hand account of the creation of Pakistan, Safar-i-Naseeb (1981), a travelogue and Loh-i-Ayyam (1996), a first-hand account of the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief over the demise of Mukhtar Masood. In a statement the premier said the literary services of Mr Masood would be remembered as he was distinguished prose writer, ambassador and author.
