KOHAT: A local court here on Wednesday granted bail to six suspects charged in an honour killing case of a female NGO worker, Hina Shahnawaz, about two months ago.

The court of additional district and sessions judge, Abdul Baseer, pronounced that the six applicants were entitled to the concession of bail. The suspects include Zulfiqar Ali, Moshim Ali, Moazim Ali, Hamad Khan, Riaz Ali and Shah Alam.

Their counsels have contended that they were innocent and had been falsely implicated in the case. The prime suspect, Mehboob Alam, has been behind bars.

The FIR of the case was registered on the complaint of Ms Farheen Shah, sister of Hina Shahnawaz.

When contacted, an officer at the concerned Ustarzai police station in Kohat confirmed that the six suspects were granted bail by the court.

Following the occurrence on Feb 6, the alleged killer, Mahboob Alam, had been absconding and was later arrested by the police.

The complainant had told the police that they were at their residence when their cousin Mahboob, 27, came to them and asked Hina to come downstairs to the basement. She said that he told Hina that she should quit her work as it had been bringing a bad name to them.

The complainant said that her sister told Mahboob that her work was her only source of livelihood and she could not quit it. She added that Mahboob took out a pistol and fired four shots at Hina who died on the spot.

ARRESTED: The police arrested two more accomplices of fake currency circulator and recovered Rs200,000 fake notes from their possession on Wednesday.

SP investigation Sanaullah Bhittani told a press briefing that the accused Niaz Sharif and Faqeer Jan, who belonged to Peshawar and Charsadda respectively, were arrested on the information provided by their three accomplices already arrested at Junglekhel. All 100 denomination notes were also seized from them.

He said that the accused had distributed fake notes in Islamabad, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and other cities. He said that the fake notes were light in weight, thin, dim and rough.
