KCCI for used cars’ import

Published July 29, 2003

KARACHI, July 28: The president, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo has urged the finance minister, Shaukat Aziz to take note of the growing imbalance between the demand and supply of the cars in Pakistan as with each passing day black marketing of car is growing with an accelerating pace.

He was commenting on the statement of Shaukat Aziz, pertaining to the recent strike by ghee manufacturers and expected import of cement through the TCP in case of increase in price of cement by cement manufacturers.

Maggo in a statement said the finance minister may also speak about allowing of import of second hand/reconditioned cars or reducing the rate of duty on the new cars to a reasonable level to give level-playing field to all stake holders if he could categorically say “no compromise” on raise in price of ghee if ghee/cooking oil prices are increased by the ghee makers and also give a hint on resorting to import of cement in case of raise of cement prices.
