LAHORE: An exhibition of paintings by Amjad Naeem, a 1999 Masters in Fine Arts from College of Art and Design, University of Punjab, opened on Wednesday at Hamail Art Gallery, M. M. Alam Road.

Mr Naeem is also an MFA gold medalist.

A number of art fanciers, professors and students from different institutions visited the show. Some 43 paintings, mostly landscapes, were on display at the exhibition.

The artworks ranging from landscape to cityscape featured interesting social and cultural aspects with a great aesthetic sense. The artist uses a rich colour palette. The use of oranges, greens and blues with hues had created a dramatic effect of somewhat night scenes reflecting light from doors, windows and steps of minarets. The landscapes on display were expressive and the artist had attempted to unveil beauty of gardens, urban suburban and rural scenes. Similarly, the artist had well portrayed the pastoral scene while unveiling fluttering crops and how buffaloes, cows and bulls were grazing freely, all that scene had well been captured and composed on the canvas.

Amjad Naeem has continuity in his journey of creativity. He has participated in a number of group shows and has held many solo exhibitions as well.

The exhibition will continue till April 1.
