Police on Moday claimed to have arrested a close relative of slain criminal Rehman Dakait and recovered arms and explosives from his possesion.

“Acting on a tip-off, Moachko SHO Babar Hameed arrested Sharif Rahim, newphew of Rehman Dakait, from Baldia,” said City SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio.

Police officials claimed to have recovered 10 hand grenades, eight stun grenades, 10 rifle grenades, three smoke grenades, three AK-47s, two 9mm rifles, nine 9mm pistols and one 222-rifle from his possesion.

The police official claimed that under prevailing situation, these grenades may have been used to carry out terror acts in Lyari or other areas of the metropolis.

Rehman Dakait was killed in 2009 by Karachi police, along with his three accomplices.
