Taimur makes it to the top of Sindh amateur golf

KARACHI: The 17th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship ended in a blaze of glory for the first two rounds leader Taimur Khan of the PAF who won by six shots over holder Zohaib Asif as curtain falls on the event at the Karachi Golf Club (KGC) on Sunday.

Taimur, a native of Peshawar, shot one over 73, for the second successive time after an enthralling 65 in the first round to finish with 211, five under par.

Defending champion Asif of the DHA who remained in contention, shot successive par for an aggregate of one over 217 to earn some consolation by finishing first runner-up six shots away the champion.

M. Rehman of the Royal Palm Golf Club, who hit headlines by scoring Hole-in-One in the second round, also ended with one over 217 but finished second runner-up. He shot two over 74 on the final day.

The ladies and veteran’s gross titles went to Humaira Khalid and retired Lt. Col Shahid Mehboob, respectively.

Aslam R. Khan, former president of the Sindh Golf Association (SGA) and former managing director PIA, who graced the occasion, gave away the prizes.

Prominent among others who were present on the occasion were the incumbent SGA president Asad I. A. Khan, Chief Operating Officer of the KGC Brig Ghazanfar Abbas, Khwaja Saeed Hai, Ashraf Khan Ghori and former Captain of the KGC Iqbal Rasheed Siddiqui.
