APROPOS the news report ( March 19). Four passengers were burnt alive when the CNG cylinder of a van exploded on Faisalabad Road in Chiniot.

Public transport all over the country, specifically in Punjab, is using substandard CNG cylinders. This is a threat to the life of passengers and can also harm other traffic.

Local governments have always been blackmailed by the so-called transport mafia and never took any meaningful measures in this aspect. There is no proper check on the quality of cylinders. They are like ‘walking bombs’ on roads. No one knows when a van is going to explode. The Chiniot incident is one of the many which have been taking place for a long time.

I hope the government and departments concerned will address this problem on priority.
