Eleven suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a newborn child in Karachi were presented in court on Saturday.

According to police, the main suspect, a woman named Musarat Anwar Khan, had admitted to the crime and a First Investigation Report against her and all her accomplices has been registered at the Orangi Town police station.

The newborn child had been kidnapped from Sindh Government Qatar Hospital on March 22.

Police officials had earlier said they were able to trace the kidnappers with the help of footage obtained from CCTV cameras installed inside the hospital.

Police told the court that Khan had admitted to having sold the newborn to another woman, identified as Nadia, for Rs15,000, who in turn was accused of selling the boy to a childless couple for Rs135,000, the senior police officer said.

On March 24, Orangi Town police had recovered the newborn in a raid in Afghan Basti near Sohrab Goth on Karachi's outskirts.

The raid was conducted based on information the police obtained from Khan. Police had arrested the 11 suspects, which include four women, following the raid.

The court has remanded Khan and her accomplices to police custody for three days.
