KOHAT: The Ustarzai police foiled an attempt of smuggling hashish from Orakzai tribal area to Peshawar and arrested an alleged carrier here on Tuesday.

According to details, a police party was busy in routine checking of vehicles coming from Orakzai Agency to Kohat at Marai checkpost. During search of a pick-up van they found 21 kilogrammes of packed hashish in its fuel tank. The alleged carrier, Jehandad Khan of Khyber Agency, was held and moved to the police station. The police have registered a case against the accused under the Drug Act.

In another case, the city police arrested nine net cafe owners for selling obscene material to youngsters at old bus stand on Tuesday. Following public complaints, a police team launched a crackdown and held nine owners allegedly along with CPUs, mobile phones, obscene films and other material and sealed the shops.

The suspects were identified as Waseem Gilani, Shakeel, Rafaqat, Asim, Nisar Ali, Naseer Khan, Falak Sher and Rizwan. They were booked and sent to prison.

ROAD PROJECT: MPA Amjid Afridi on Tuesday inaugurated a road from Bilitang Chowk to Alghada, which had been completed at a cost of Rs40 million.

Speaking on the occasion, he insisted that no road or street would remain incomplete in PK-37. Local nazim Hashim Khan was also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Senator Shibli Faraz announced a grant of Rs1 million for the Kohat Union of Journalists on the occasion of its oath-taking ceremony here on Tuesday.

MPA Ziaullah Bangash was also present at the function held at Kohat Press Club.

They asked the journalists to guide people towards right direction and pinpoint wrongdoings of the government as it was their responsibility.
