PPP moves Sindh High Court against 'irregularities' in census procedure

The PPP petitioned the Sindh High Court on Monday to challenge the procedures put in place during the ongoing census and seek disclosure of all data collected during the process, DawnNews reported.

The petition was filed against the federal government, as well as other parties, over alleged irregularities in the census procedure.

PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar told reporters after submitting the petition that the party has reservations over the procedures put in place for the census.

"Access to information is our basic right; however, several important categories of information have been labelled as confidential in the census," Babar complained.

"The data collected in the census should be posted on a website immediately so the people can know how many houses have been marked in the house counting process," he added.

He said he feared the people would remain unaware of the data collected on them and all information would be sent to Islamabad. He added that all citizens should be provided a copy of their information so they can tally the data at a later stage.

PPP is just trying to prove themself that they are important in Pakistan politics. All the data which is collected will be published once the whole procedure is completed. Stop doing politics for God sake.

PPP has no credibility - they did nothing during her 5 years and now causing problems for those who are doing it.... Problem no 1: Trust deficit between State and citizens (rulers and subjects in Pakistan)

Hmm, PPP demands seem genuine. Transparency of information was passed as law recently in Sindh Assembly. By doing so, census data manipulation would be prevented for political gains by the relevant Political Parties.

This is art of our politics and politician. First of they do not believe to do something which is important for general public as well country and if initiated either by the order of court or government initiative than how to make it controversial...to gain point for upcoming elections!

As the times passes, each census gets more and more questionable. A pandora's box may open once the results are out as nearly all the parties esp of sindh will make a hue and cry over the results as the ethnic demographics may have changed significantly in the last 20 years. These parties just for their own agenda of divide and rule have created fears in the minds of general public against each other. Just imagine if the %age of urdu comes out to be very low in karachi then MQM will start to capitalize on the fears of the mohajirs that karachi has been snatched away from them. Similarly, if the %age of pashtuns comes out to be too high in balochistan then baloch nationals will do the same. sindhi nationalists may do the same if the %age of sindhis drop in sindh due to immigration from up country. I think it is better if the census bureau is handed to the army ensuring regular unbiased census and remove the language section altogether so that no one can fight at least on that.

Constitution of Pakistan was drafted and enforced during the PPP's rule. Therefore, anything not suited to them, is their own creation. Besides, they have remained in power on 5 occasions when the did not move to change all these things they find painful now.
