KARACHI, July 26: Industries Ministry secretary Muhammad Javed Ashraf Hussain has said the government will not allow import of reconditioned cars.

“The government will continue to support the local industry to ensure its growth and prosperity,” the secretary said while addressing the vendor and supplier convention organized by Indus Motor Company (IMC) on July 25.

He said the government intended to see significant growth in the industrial sector. “The government will fully support the auto industry, but it too has to be competitive.”

He said IMC had achieved deletion levels up to 63 per cent and Toyota production had reached to 12,000 units in 2002-03 and it was expected go up to 38,000 in coming year, says a press release.

Earlier, IMC chairman Ali S. Habib said the company alone had paid Rs5 billion in taxes last year that constitutes one per cent of the total revenue collection of the CBR. He said IMC bought 1,500 parts from local vendors that provided employment to about 100,000 people.
