A former police officer, convicted of murdering three individuals, was hanged in Gujranwala Central Jail on Thursday morning.

Gulzar, a former police officer, was found guilty of killing Shafique, Irfan, and Sultan on May 20, 2002 within court premises as an act of vengeance for the death of his brother.

A special counter-terrorism court overruled his mercy plea and issued black warrants on March 10.

Security was beefed up in the jail during the time of execution.

The culprit's body was later handed over to the family for burial.
