Employers ask EOBI to withdraw notices

KARACHI: Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP) President Majyd Aziz has rejected the notices sent by the Employees Old-age Benefits Institution (EOBI) demanding employers to contribute Rs780 per employee per month instead of Rs480.

Earlier, the federation challenged the EOBI’s move in the high courts of Sindh, Balochistan, KP and Islamabad which issued stay orders while the Lahore High Court declared EOBI’s notification as illegal and ultra vires. Despite legal bar the EOBI continues to demand contribution at enhanced rate from companies through its web facilitation system.

Mr Aziz urged the EOBI to immediately withdraw the illegal and unwarranted notices and comply with the legal provision and refrain from misguiding the employers.

Seriously has anyone ever actually benefited from EOBI? What are they doing? What is their mandate? The only time I hear about them is when some politician is involved in a scam

EOBI is a very nice institution which is giving different retirement benefits to a large number of working class including widows etc. The employers don't want to increase the minimum wages or EOBI​ contribution just to take the same benefit to their own pockets. Be careful about this mind set & request the social/print media to promote positive awareness.

Because of rampant corruption in SESSI and EOBI, hardy twenty five percent of employees are registered with these organization.Thus burden of contribution falls on these twenty five percent contributors. The field officers in these organizations are living in air condition palaces. This is done under the nose of commissioners and politicians in power. It is surprizing why opposition does not catch these corruption. Real sufferers are employees who are denied pensions and health care etc.
