Five escape from police custody

BAHAWALPUR, July 25: Five accused, including three involved in a dacoity case, escaped from Lal Sohanra police custody on Friday.

It is reported that there was only one constable on guard duty while the other constable had gone to attend a telephone call.

NAIB NAZIM REMOVED: A no-confidence motion against the Naib Nazim of city union council No 1, Malik Athar Rashid, was adopted here on Friday.

Fourteen councillors voted in favour of the motion tabled by Abdullah Kaliar. He accused the Naib Nazim of misuse of his powers.

A special meeting held to vote on the motion, was presided over by acting Nazim Nadeem Khan.

Police were deplored to avoid any untoward incident.

FLOOD: The district has been divided into five sectors to cope with impending flood.

The local administration has taken precautionary measures due to heavy rain.

The rural population adjacent to Panjnad headworks in the areas of Uch Sharif and Ahmadpur East is more vulnerable to flood than other localities.

The administration has set up 20 relief camps at various points for the flood affected people and their livestock. It has made arrangements to provide the marooned people essential commodities and fodder to their cattle in case of any emergency.

Meanwhile, Bahawalpur city civil defence organization has been put on alert.

FOREST SCHOOL: Punjab Minister for Environment Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmad has assured that the government forest school will not be shifted from Bahawalpur. During his visit here the other day, the Makhdoom was apprised of the issue.
