Operation Raddul Fasaad 'important in elimination of terrorism' in Pakistan: Russia

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa met Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexey Yurevich Dedov in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss matters of regional security, Inter-Services Public Relations, the army's media wing, said in a statement.

Dedov appreciated the Army for launching Operation Raddul Fasaad, saying it will play an important role in eliminating terrorism from Pakistan.

He said the initiatives taken by Pakistan will boost economic growth.

The visiting ambassador condemned recent terror attacks in the country, saying Russia is aggrieved and acknowledges Pakistan's efforts in its fight against terrorism.

Expressing gratitude for Russia's support, Gen Bajwa said enhanced military-to-military cooperation between Pakistan and Russia promises a positive outcome for regional security.

Pakistan and Russia held their first-ever consultation on regional issues in December last year at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.

Relations between the two countries have been growing stronger since the Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Pakistan in 2014. The two countries had at the time inked a bilateral defence cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening military-to-military relations.
