TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of people blocked traffic on the bus stand road and railway track at the Gojra level crossing on Samundri Road on Friday over the alleged killing of a trader by robbers.

Protesters leader Saifur Rehman told reporters that his nephew, Faizul Hasan, was present at his grocery shop at Gadda Khana Chowk when two motorcyclists came over and attempted to loot the shop. Hasan offered resistance over which the suspected robbers shot him dead.

The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the suspects and placed the body of the deceased on the track to protest.

District Police Officer Usman Akram Gondal and MPA Abdul Qadeer Awan held talks with the protesters and assured them that the culprits would be arrested at the earliest over which they ended the protest.

DEMO: Brick kiln workers and Labour Qaumi Movement activists staged a demonstration on Friday at Kamalia against the labour department for failing to get the government’s notification implemented under which the workers were to be paid Rs1,036 per 1,000 bricks.

Addressing the protesters outside the press club, labour leader Baba Abdul Latif Ansari said thousands of workers at 230 kilns of the district were being paid much less than the fixed wages.

He alleged labour department officials of backing kiln owners. He also warned if the same situation continued, kiln workers would be forced to take to the streets.
