LAHORE: Junior nurses resumed duties at the Shaikh Zayed Hospital on Wednesday after the administration notified termination of the post-graduate training of a doctor who had slapped one of their colleagues some days ago.

The nurses had refused to work at medical and surgical wards when Dr Usman Ali, a post-graduate trainee of the orthopedics department, slapped a nurse at the emergency ward.

Following the incidents, nurses had stopped working at the wards but resumed duties after the administration constituted a three-member committee, headed by Dr Aslam Khiji, to submit a report.

On Wednesday, the nurses again stopped work and staged a demonstration outside the Administration Block.

Chanting slogans, the nurses kept all the doors of the hospital shut till Deputy Dean of the Shaikh Zayed Post-Graduate Medical Institute, Prof Dr Shafiq a Shafaq, notified termination of the training of Dr Usman on the recommendations of the inquiry committee.
