ISLAMABAD: The capital police have decided to conduct a survey of the city to collect firsthand information on tenants and others living in the city and to determine their backgrounds, the police said on Wednesday.

The decision was made by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Operations) Sajid Kiani, in pursuance of the National Action Plan, in light of the current wave of terrorism in the country, they said, adding that all zonal superintendents of police have been directed to begin the exercise immediately.

Mr Kiani directed all police officials to conduct the survey in their respective areas, and gather information on all the people residing in their respective jurisdictions, the police said. They added that complete information should be maintained about the history of people living in the city either temporarily or permanently.

Following these directions SP (City) Zubair Ahmed Sheikh finalised the Performa to collect firsthand information about tenants in the Secretariat, Bhara Kahu, Aabpara and Kohsar police areas, they said. The relevant information includes tenants’ names, father’s name, house number, street number, sector, CNIC number, mobile phone number, family members, reason to stay in Islamabad, landlord’s name and landlord’s complete address.

The police have also asked landlords to cooperate and submit the necessary details about their tenants and domestic employees, and landlords who do not comply or are reluctant to submit tenant information could face strict action.

Mr Kiani said the exercise aimed to ensure high vigilance against criminal elements.

Separately, police, Rangers and other security agencies conducted a search operation in Banigala on Wednesday, including in Pind Begwal, and arrested three suspects, police said.

Over 100 houses were screened and three people arrested, and weapons and ammunition were recovered, they said. The arrested suspects were taken to a police station for further investigation.
