KARACHI: The seventeenth edition of Sindh Games will be held in Karachi in the month of May this year, Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Bux Mahar announced on Monday.

“We were initially planning to hold Sindh Games in March or April but several educational institutions requested us to reconsider the dates due to the exams of students and, therefore, we have planned to hold the games in mid May,” Mahar told reporters here at a press conference held at the Beach Luxury Hotel.

The soft spoken minister said that Karachi has been chosen as the venue for Sindh Games as there are good level sports facilities available here as compared to other cities of the province. “Moreover, players from interior Sindh enjoy participating in events at Karachi,” Mahar said.

He added that the list of sports to be contested at the Games will be announced soon. He disclosed that a budget of 15 million rupees have been allocated for the games which will be staged after a lapse of five years.

“The last Sindh Games were held in 2012. We have worked to evaluate whether we can hold the games befittingly in the given budget and it seems quite difficult to attain the objective. However, our chief minister have assured his help if we exceed that budget,” said Mahar.
