LAHORE, Dec 29: Nine members of the central managing committee (CMC) of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) have requisitioned a meeting of the CMC on Saturday in Karachi.
The requisition has been signed by Yahya Saleem, Samir Saigol, Muhammad Akbar Sheikh, Shahid Faraz Warraich, Javaid Iqbal, Shahid Anwar Tata, Shahzad Ahmad, Muhammad Shaheen and Dewan Ayub Khalid, according to a resolution sent to the acting Aptma chief executive on Monday.
The CMC meeting has been requisitioned under article 62 of the Articles of Association of Aptma to manage the affairs of the association in the current situation. Other items on the agenda include discussion on cotton, yarn and fabric situation as well as matters relating to sales tax and DTRE rules.
Moreover, the CMC would also review financial affairs of the association and appoint members to operate bank accounts and form an ad hoc legal committee from among members to appoint legal counsel(s) to represent Aptma in various cases filed with courts and the office of the DTO and the arbitration proceedings before the Arbitral Tribunal of the FPCCI in which Aptma may be a party.
CHAIRMAN: Meanwhile, Aptma chairman Waqar Monnoo said he had not received any formal request from the CMC members to convene the meeting.
“What I have received so far is a resolution from nine CMC members. On such a resolution, the meeting cannot be called,” he said from Karachi. He said the CMC members could convene a meeting on their own only if the chairman declines to do so on a proper, formal request. “If they send a request, I will fix a date for the meeting,” he added.
