Hissam grabs winner

LAHORE, Dec 28: A last-gasp goal by Hissam Ali Hyder through 30-yard penalty hit helped Green Earth to annex the Mobilink Polo Cup beating Shalimar in the final 6-5 at LPC Ground on Sunday.

The winners led 5-2 at the end of the third chukker. But Shalimar staged a fine comeback scoring three goals in a row in the fourth chukker to make it 5-all, before Hissam struck the winner.

Shah Shamyl Alam, scored two goals in the match. who in all scored thrice, struck back-to-back goals as Green Earth surged ahead 4-1.

He scored the first through a field attempt and then converted a 30-yard penalty. Mustafa Tiwana reduced the margin (4-2) for the loser.

Green Earth had further consolidated the lead 5-2 when Shamyl struck the solitary goal of the third chukker.

Shalimar launched a grand three goals rally to make a match of its rival but failed to turn the tables.

Atif Yar Tiwana struck back-to-back field goals while Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana converted a 60 yards penalty with a lofted hit to  restore  the parity 5-5.

Earlier, Diamond Paints earned third place beating Shahzad Siddique Textile in a nail-biting subsidiary final 5 1/2-4.

By virtue of a half handicap goal, Diamond Paints were leading 3 1/2-3 at the end of the third chukker as both teams scored a goal each in every chukker.

Diamond Paints scored twice in the fourth chukker to consolidate the lead. Shahzad Siddique Textile also hit a goal in the end but only to reduce the margin.

For the winners, Arsalan Najeeb scored two goals while Taimur Malik, Maula Baksh and Mir Shoaib Ahmad chipped in with  a goal each.

For the losers, Asif Yar Tiwana, Ahmed Ali, Agha Murtaza Ali and Ahsan Javed Sher shared the scoring honours.
