KARACHI: Incisive bowling by Arsalan Farzand and fine batting by Sheraz Ali led Karachi University cricket team to title win in the All Pakistan HEC Inter-varsity cricket that concluded here on Saturday. KU beat University of Central Punjab by 43 runs to win the final at the the IBA Cricket Ground. The tournament was organised by IBA Karachi.
Batting first after winning the toss, University of Karachi team scored 157 all out in 38.2 overs with Sheraz (42) and Zakir Ali (40) scoring the bulk of runs for them.
In reply, the University of Central Punjab team failed to put up a challenge to some fantastic bowling from Arsalan who bagged 3 for 12 off his five overs to skittle the opposition to 114 all out in 32 overs. Only Tayyab Tahir (29) managed to show some resistance. Arsalan waxs named Man of the Final.
Earlier, the third position match was won by University of Lahore who beat Gomal University by three wickets at the UBL Ground.
Ahmer bin Nasir of University of Karachi was declared as the best batsman of the tournament best bowler of the tournament was Asfand Mehran from University of Central Punjab.
Player of the tournament was Raja Farzan from University of Lahore.
Jami Moiz, Registrar of IBA, was the chief guest on the occasion while Moeid Sultan, Director Finance IBA, was the guest of honour and distributed the prizes and certificates among the teams and the players.
Also present on the occasion were Gohar Raza, Manager of IBA Sports and Syed Waqas.
