HARIPUR: Speakers at a gathering of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz said that politicians were answerable to their voters, who made them accountable during elections.

They were addressing a sizable gathering organised by local leaders of PML-N local leaders at the Elementary College Ground here on Monday.

Speaking to the “workers convention”, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed said that PML-N leaders had undergone accountability process thrice in the past, but some quarters were still trying to grill Mian Mohammad Sharif, the late father of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

He said people of Pakistan had brought PML-N into power in 1990, 1997 and 2013 because they thought Nawaz Sharif was the only leader, who had initiated mega development projects in the country.

Mr Rasheed hit hard at Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, who according to him failed to materialise his election promises in Khybe Pakhtunkhwa.

Federal Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique said that PML-N government had made Pakistan an important country by constructing China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which had opened up new development vistas across the world. He said that a new container-handling terminal was being constructed at Havelian, which would create new jobs for people of the area.

Earlier, Adviser to Prime Minister Asif Kirmani, PML-N provincial chief Pir Sabir Shah, MNA Gohar Nawaz Khan, former MNA Omer Ayub Khan, former provincial minister Qazi Mohammad Asad Khan, Habibullah Khan Tareen and MPA Raja Faisal Zaman also spoke on the politics of PML-N and problems faced by people of Haripur. All the speakers criticised Imran Khan and made it an anti-Imran show.

Omer Ayub recalled that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had promised establishment of Hazara province at the very same place, which was yet to materialise.
