LAHORE: Punjab Sports and Youth Minister Jahangir Khanzada along with women hockey players cut a cake to inaugurate the first Women Hockey League on Thursday.

LAHORE: Peshawar Deers will take on Islamabad Shaheen while Lahore Lions will face Karachi Dolphins on the opening day of the first Pakistan Women Hockey League which will commence here at the National Hockey Stadium on Friday.

A logo unveiling ceremony of the league was held here on Thursday. Provincial Sports Minister Jahanzaib Khanzada was the chief guest at the ceremony.

The league is being held by the Punjab Women Hockey Associ­ation in collaboration with Sports Board Punjab and Pakistan Hockey Federation.

Players and officials of all the five competing teams — Lahore Lions, Islamabad Shaheens, Peshawar Deers, Karachi Dolphins and Quetta Panthers — were present on the occasion.

The final will be played on Feb 8.
