Suzuki to stop taking orders for Cultus from Feb 1

Pak Suzuki Motors has announced to discontinue the booking its 1,000cc hatchback car, Cultus, with effect from February 1, 2017.

A notification sent by Suzuki to all its authorised dealers, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, directed the dealers to stop booking new orders for the cars from February 1.

"We are discontinuing booking of Suzuki Cultus with effect from February 1, 2017," the notification reads.

The company, however, will serve all pending orders as per commitment, it added.

The company is intended to replace Suzuki Cultus with 1,000cc Celerio. The company had introduced Suzuki Cultus in the year 2000, replacing Suzuki Khyber.

Pak Suzuki has already announced its plans to start local production of Suzuki Alto 660cc by 2018 to replace its iconic Mehran 800cc.

PakSuzuki Motors should bring its cars to 21st century standards. The car is expensive by Pakistani standards and offer obsolete cars. This is totally unacceptable to keep Pakistani people away from luxury cars. I think Pakistani government of Nawaz Sharif and of PPP should have opened the market for foreign cars to compete in local market. I can bet Pakistanis will get better car for the price they are paying now. The hegemony of Pakistan Automobiles should be broken into many pieces.

Pakistan doesn't need cars it needs military equipment . For transport it can use miles and ponies, but war requires good vehicles. Pakistan must not worry if it is made known to them that Indian Kashmir consumes more cars than whole of Pakistan

This crap car production started in Pakistan now for 16 years !! Can u imagine no change of ecen dashboard and lights for 15 years ?? Now they saying no more orders.. hahaha. Suzuki doing a great favor to Pakistan..

@ali Celerio is a total failure in India. Suzuki should introduce their latest models in Pakistan too. Suzuki is totally ignoring Pakistani market .They have R&D in India and make latest models specifically for India with all safety standards.

Suzuki , Indus Motors and Honda Altas should stop modifying their original cars to so called pakistani specifications. It seems as if the quality standards are being compromised to save costs. Importing barriers have to be removed to change the monopolistic mindset of these companies. They are selling low quality cars for much higher price. shame on them.

Cultus is a globally obsolete model only being still sold in Pakistan. It was discontinued in 2000 in all other countries. Mehran was discontinued in 1989 in Europe and Japan. Ravi and Bolan are based on late 1970s Suzuki Carry platform. Even their super car Swift generation sold in PK was discontinued everywhere else in 2010. Paksuzuki has made Pakistan a dumping ground for obsolete designs and models. Selling the same model for 30 years and calling it a modern car these guys are exploitative. None of there cars have even basic safety features as well like airbags or crash absorption design.

Can somebody save pakistan from savages of Suzuki? I think secretary and minister of industry must institute a policy where by companies using and selling obsolete technology (like suzuki cars) shall be taxed 10 time vs other car manufacturers.

@Zahirabbas Even here in India Suzuki cars are considered just value for money. They are not considered to be great, safe, beautiful cars unlike their other Japanese rivals like Toyota and Honda or cars with European origin. Personally I consider their build quality just about adequate. However they have most widespread service centers, parts are easily available and they are not expensive, hence they sell well as long as the price does not breach say 13-15 lac INR. They failed with Vitara and Kizashi the cars that were at the lower end of luxury cars.

The govt. should support the local cars. Sindh govt. should start a Taxi Scheme on the likes of the Punjab govt. allowing people to buy local cars on interest free loans and using as taxi's on Uber and Careem. Will be a win / win situation for all.
