KARACHI: Maulana Saleemullah Khan, a prominent religious scholar, passed away in Karachi on Sunday. He was the founder of Jamia Farooqia, Shah Faisal Colony, according to an official at the seminary.

The official said Maulana Saleemullah Khan had once been a teacher of Mufti Rafi Usmani and Mufti Taqi Usmani.

According to the seminary’s website, Maulana Saleemullah Khan was born in Muzaffarnagar, India. He entered the Darul Uloom Deoband in 1942, where he was a student of Syed Hussain Ahmad Madani, among others. The Maulana earned a degree in Islamic studies in 1947.

He taught at a seminary in India for eight years before migrating to Pakistan. Initially, he taught at a seminary in Tando Allahyar for three years and later at Darul Uloom, Korangi, Karachi. He founded Jamia Farooqia in 1967.
