ISLAMABAD, Dec 21: There is no harm if Pakistan ratifies international treaties as these are compatible with Islamic laws.

This was stated by Dr Javaid Rahman while speaking at a discussion on the issue of ‘Islam and human rights’ at the Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR) Secretariat in Islamabad.

Dr Rahman highlighted the significance of the subject, the issues of compatibility of international criminal laws with Islamic laws, definitional issues of identification of modern Islamic states, the OIC criterion, overview of ratifications and obligations undertaken by Islamic states.

Dr Rahman said almost all the Islamic countries were members of the United Nations. In fact, the Islamic injunctions are encapsulated in the UN Charter, so it is false to think that Islamic laws are incompatible with the UN, he added.

“There is a need for Pakistan to ratify a lot of international treatise on human rights which will further the country’s cause and its image in the world arena,” Dr Rahman said.

MNA Shujaul Mulk said the protection of human rights was very necessary in a welfare Islamic state. Only through this way, a congenial society can be shaped.

He said in this connection, the police and the courts system of the country needed reformation.
