Arms licences

Published January 3, 2017

THIS refers to the computerised registration of arms licences. I wrote a letter in these columns on this subject in 2014 but I am still waiting for my computerised licence to be issued in lieu of the manual licences by Sindh government.

I reside in Lahore and had to travel to Karachi to apply for one as it was issued by the DC Central, Karachi. The tracking ID is 78131060703 and the form was deposited on Dec 9, 2013.

To this day no news of its progress or any feedback has been received individually or through newspapers. As responsible citizens we have done our civic duty.

With the new year, licences will be due for renewal. One is at a loss as to what is to be done. How long will the government continue to take its citizens for a ride? Is there no accountability? I hold two licences issued by the Balochistan government.

Moreover, I was allowed two gratis licences (for retired army personnel) vide ministry of defence letter No.30/849-A/D-14(W)/79 dated Aug 8, 1979, Rawalpindi.

I request Nadra to allow all federal government employees to get their computerised licences from the nearest Nadra office anywhere in Pakistan.

Our arms licences have not been issued by one province but different provinces owing to our postings. It would enable Nadra to keep a track and help us in carrying out a one-window operation.
