The matter of Shahid Afridi's retirement from T20 internationals took another turn on Sunday when the former T20 captain said he would not ask the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to give him a farewell match.
The veteran cricketer had earlier requested the PCB for a farewell match so that he could exit international arena in a befitting manner.

At the closing ceremony of a cricketing event organised by the Peshawar Zalmi at Islamia College Peshawar, Afridi said, "I will not request PCB to give me a farewell match. I have earned enough respect on my own."
"I earn love from my fans and cricket-lovers. It matters to me the most," Afridi said.
Chief selector and former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq had reportedly tried to convince the PCB to pick Afridi for a T20 series against the West Indies earlier this year so he could play a game and announce his retirement. However, the PCB reportedly scrapped the idea.
According to reports, PCB chief Shaharyar Khan and Inzamam had both given approval for Afridi’s inclusion as the 16th player in the line-up of the final match against the West Indies, but the plan was dismissed after Najam Sethi objected to the method of his selection, claiming if the selectors were confident he was good enough to represent the country, then he should be included in the 15-man squad.
Afridi today also expressed the view that the Pakistan-India ties can be improved through sports and cricket, but India must also show interest in resuming ties.

I hope the afridi chapter is now closed for good and Pakistan cricket can continue moving forward. The chase at gabba shows that this team without afridi can bat sensibly and challenge top teams in their own back yards.

What I have to admit about Afridi is that people still love him. He got a ban because of chewing the cricket ball, also one test ban for tampering the pitch. He also has made disparaging remarks about Pakistani female cricketers that they are only good for cooking. But he is still popular. He still gets advertisements.

This is a the problem with our cricketers, they don't know when they have passed their time and should gracefully exit. Why is Afridi even looking for a farewell match? What will he do? Get maybe 1 or 2 wickets and stay at the wicket for 3 or 4 balls. Maybe even cause the team to loose the match. You are done, just bid farewell to cricket. You have made enough money to live high quality life in Pakistan

Afridi is still good enough to play for pak.
He should continue to play for another two years.Pak need a big hitting bowling all rounder in t20 & one days.

Afridi already got few farewell matches, now what he was thinking? He already played his innings, and now do not realize that Pakistan team is better off without him. Now, instead of merit, he want to come into team using backdoor, wanting farewell match (when he already got many), and then after that farewell match, declare that he is available, but when he is not selected, start asking farewell match again.

Dear afridi legends like dravid and laxman walked out from cricket without playing farewell match.sachin walked away from one day matches after playing 450 matches without a farewell even though he got one for test. Farewell matches are earned not guarenteed. You are not bigger than the game..

I support Shahid Afridi for his stand, it is pity PCB has sidelined a great player of Shahid Afridi's calibre so unceremoniously, I think there is no culture in PCB to honour living legends of Pakistan cricket.

What has he done to deserve a farewell match. If acts like biting the ball to damage its seam in front of the spectators and cameras streaming live and forgetting the protocol and bringing up kashmir during match conversations in icc tournaments are considered pious then maybe he deserves.

I don't think , Pak people appreciate him , or selecters will take him on . That's all our arrogant nation can do . They only appreciate if yo give something to them. Beggars . Anyway his bowling is still better than mos of our team players , batting hit and miss. Afridi is a legend and will have more love from around the world.
