KARACHI: The federal government has appointed renowned poet and scholar Iftikhar Arif director general of the National Language Promotion Department.

“With the approval of a competent authority, Mr Iftikhar Arif is appointed as Director General, National Language Promotion Department (NLPD), under the National History and Literary Heritage Division, in MP-I Scale on contract basis for period of three years with immediate effect and until further orders,” an official said on Saturday, citing a notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat of the Establishment Division.

He added that Mr Arif had returned from a diplomatic assignment in Iran.
