Doctors defying transfer orders

Published January 2, 2002

BAJAUR, Jan 1: The doctors of the Bajaur Agency Headquarters Hospital, Khar, who were transferred from the agency due to the repeated complaints received from several quarters, are unwilling to neither vacate their posts nor the official residences they occupy, it has been learnt.

The NWFP health department had issued a notification effecting transfers of some doctors in view of the repeated complaints received from religious, political and social circles of Bajaur Agency on Dec 21, 2001. These doctors were posted in the agency some 10 years back.

The sources said that the doctors had started contacting the tribal elders and chieftains to have their transfer orders withdrawn. They have also created a fund of Rs300,000 for the purpose.

But the provincial government has refused to be influenced, official sources said.

According to the notification, the doctors had been directed to assume charge of their new posts within three days of the issuance of the transfer order, but despite the lapse of almost two weeks they have not done so.

Their noncompliance with the transfer orders is causing difficulties for the new doctors who are waiting to take their places in the agency hospitals.
